History

The history of UniTBv began with the establishment of the Institute of Silviculture in 1949. The Institute of Mechanics was established the following year, and in 1956, the two fused and the Polytechnic of Brasov was founded. This later became the University of Brasov, which in turn became Transilvania University of Brașov.

Housing services

The university has two student campuses - Colina and Memorandului. In the Colina campus there are 5 student dormitories, with 1,700 accommodation places. In the Memorandului campus there are 8 dormitories, offering 2,534 accommodation places.

Library services

The University library offers access to 573,204 volumes and numerous scientific and academic resources. There is a Free Access Room, the Publication Loan Centre as well as the Library of Music.

Medical services

  • For students from EU member states, medical care in Romania is provided based on the European Health Insurance Card.
  • If you find yourself in need of medical assistance, you can go to any authorized medical unit, public or private. Some private health insurance companies will refer you to a specific clinic or hospital that they have a contract with.

Campus life

  • The university has two student campuses - Colina and Memorandului. Out of the university's 21 buildings, 7 are situated in the historical centre of Brașov, 10 buildings are in the Colina campus, and other 4 in other areas of the city.
  • A recent World Bank study describes Brașov as a “world-class city”, with a developed economy, an attractive architecture and a high quality of life. The newest areas of the constantly expanding city are both residential and industrial, as well as leisure spaces. Not far from the city, only 12 kilometers away, is the largest ski resort in Romania, Poiana Brașov and, about 30 kilometers away is the Bran Castle, commonly associated with the legend of Dracula.

Sports facilities

The university offers three sports fields and three sports halls. The sports field in the Colina campus is equipped with floodlights; in addition to the outdoor playing fields, the student campuses offer indoor relaxation facilities for activities such as ping-pong or billiards.
