History
Islamia University began as Jamia Abbasia, a religious university established in Bahawalpur in 1925 following the academic pursuits of Al-Azhar University in Egypt. In 1975, Jamia Abbasia was declared a general university and renamed as The Islamia University of Bahawalpur.

Research
Faculty, staff and student of the University community engaging in research should adhere to the highest standard of ethics and Research Integrity. This is to ensure that the reputation of the University for scholarly integrity is preserved.Research Integrity includes the rigour, care and accountability that are the hallmarks of good scholarship and is not merely the avoidance of wrongdoing. Research Misconduct by the University community, defined as fabrication, falsification, plagiarism or other wrongdoing in proposing, designing, performing, recording, supervising or reviewing research, or in reporting research results is unacceptable and is grounds for disciplinary action.

Housing services
Employee’s residential colony is situated at Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus, facilitating more than 300 families of university employees. There are male and female bachelor hostels for faculty and officers, Executive hostel and Foreign Faculty hostel are also located at Baghdad-ul-Jaded campus for faculty officers and guests.
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has a large boarding facility for students. Sixteen hostels with housing facility of 10 thousand students are available in five campuses. Rabia hall for girls and Abu Bakar Hall for boys are located at Abbasia Campus. There are six girls’ hostels are located in Baghdad Ul Jaded campus.
ICT services
The Directorate of IT has been engaged in providing IT services to the IUB faculty, students, and staff. It has different domains each with its own team that performs assigned tasks as per guidelines and directions of Director IT. To facilitate these domains (sections), various vacant posts were filled, staff got permanent and appreciated.
Campus life
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur established Bahawalnagar Sub-Campus in 2005. The Campus is located on Minchanabad road Bahawalnagar scattered over 50 acres of land.The Islamia University of Bahawalpur established Rahim Yar Khan Sub-Campus in 2005. The Campus is located on Abu Dhabi Road Rahim Yar Khan scattered over 80 acres of land.Initially university started at the Abbasia Campus and Khawaja Farid Campus with ten departments. Sports facilities
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur provides opportunities to students to participate in various sports activities. The University established a fully equipped Sports Complex with Gym and indoor games facilities like Badminton, Table Tennis, Basket Ball, Handball, Wrestling, Volleyball, Tug of War, Kabaddi, Boxing, Squash court and many more. Moreover, outdoor games facilities like Athletics, Cricket Stadium, Football Stadium, Hockey Stadium, Rugby, Shooting Range, Archery Range, Jogging Tracks, are also available separate for the male and female students with coaching facility.
Student clubs
More than 100 student’s societies/clubs are working under the umbrella of the Directorate of Students Affairs in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Faculty Members and Officers are assigned to administer each society as Advisors/Co-advisors/Mentors/In charge to polish their skills and to provide them opportunities to participate in co-curricular activities in the university.
Subject related Faculty level student’s societies and subject related student’s clubs are also established to engage students in organizing events/activities, promoting co-curricular activities at faculty and department level respectively.
