Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) is an international higher education institute offering a small-scale educational environment with a diverse community and a wide range of degree programmes and research themes.
A school that trains students to become ‘Toerist Officier’ (Tourist Officer) – that was the idea of Mr Sliepen, director of the Breda Tourist Information Office, back in 1963. This school was to be a national scientific institute, consisting of a research department and a course programme.
Education
BUas offers professional and academic bachelor’s and master’s programmes and is an expert in closely interrelated fields: Tourism, Leisure & Events, Hotel & Facility, Logistics & Built Environment, Media & Creative Business, Games, and Data Science & AI. Our strength lies in the ability to connect these fields.
Research
At BUas, we foster a dynamic synergy between R&D, education, and society. We treat all three as equally important, mutually reinforcing, and interconnected functions that contribute to industry, students, academia, and society at large, helping to shape a better world.

Small scale international community
Throughout my studies at BUas I have felt super engaged in the international community. Everyone is super kind and open and even with teachers you get along and have chats on a very interpersonal level. The study itself also allows for personalisation of how you see your study track fitting. For example, you have the chance to choose a specialisation, a minor and multiple placements. The study facilities on campus are also great and the overall environment is really nice and stimulating to study with your peers. I could do nothing but recommend this study to anyone who is curious about different cultures and wants an amazing way to gain connections within your industry.

Studying the science of tourism
I love my studies at Breda University of Applied Sciences. The bachelor’s is a joint degree with Wageningen University so it’s the best of both worlds. It’s a unique experience to be able to follow university courses in a small but very international school. The building is so pretty and its very easy to connect with people from other studies. Our study has a practical side of teaching too! I have most loved our projects and visits to different cities and nature areas in the Netherlands.

Tourism management in Breda
I enjoyed going to school here, good food, nice atmosphere, great people. An interesting study that offered great field trips. A completely new campus, which is offering plenty of self-study space. In general, good functioning WIFI and a great library.
