Education

Jacobs University is a research-oriented, state-accredited university with a broad portfolio of pre-degree, undergraduate and graduate study programs from the natural and social sciences, engineering and economics. Extensive extracurricular activities support and strengthen our students’ personal development. At Jacobs University, class sizes are small and for each student a professor acts as a personal mentor and academic advisor. Students are actively involved in research from their first year of study. In research and teaching, the faculty members follow a transdisciplinary approach, addressing issues from multiple perspectives.

The department of Mathematics & Logistics is home to programs including the master programs in Supply Chain Engineering & Management and Data Engineering. Information influences the life of the individual and the cohesion of societies and cultures in many different ways.   • Student Service Center
Volunteers assist students in a wide range of everyday matters in the Student Service Center. Open five days a week, students find here advice and practical help with a variety of services including housing, medical attention and information on local events.
  • International Office (Study Abroad)
International learning and research experience is a vital part of the contemporary academic life and a prerequisite for a successful career. The International Office is glad to offer its services to students and researchers of Jacobs University, exchange and visiting students, and international scholars.

Housing services

Unlike other German universities, Jacobs University is a campus university. On campus, you can find residential colleges, lecture halls, research laboratories, sports facilities, a theater and a cinema, as well as a coffee bar.Jacobs University is happy to provide its Graduate Students with attractive and affordable accommodation off-campus in the city of Bremen (room only). The fee for accommodation for one academic year (nine months) is € 3,000. During the application process, students can decide whether they would like to use this service offered by our university or whether they prefer to find an individual accommodation on their own.

Library services

Jacobs University’s library is part of the Information Resource Center (IRC), housed in the spacious Campus Center building. Quiet group and individual study areas, equipped with WLAN, power and network connections, offer space for learning in groups or individually.

Medical doctors and hospitals are in the neighborhood. Health insurance companies have offices on Campus. Our Student Service Center helps students to make doctors appointments.

Student Life

Campus life

Jacobs University’s green and tree-shaded campus covers an area of 34 hectares. The architecture combines modern designs with gabled brick structures built in the last century. The campus features buildings for teaching and research with a total of 5,600 square meters of laboratory space equipped to the highest standards. 

The beautiful historic city center of Bremen is only a short ride by public transportation away (20 minutes). Facilities for everyday life are in the neighborhood. 

Sports facilities

The Jacobs Sports and Convention Center (SCC) houses four multi-purpose sports halls, a fitness center, and a rowing tank. Jacobs offers a wide variety of physical activities to recharge your mental batteries. If you just want to stay fit, you can work out at the gym, go swimming, or join fitness groups such as zumba or yoga. We also have a martial arts room and a dance room. There are many sports clubs active on Campus: Basketball, Badminton, Soccer, Rowing etc.

Student clubs

Jacobs University does not only offer an excellent academic education but also many opportunities for students outside of the classroom. The various student-driven social and cultural activities encompass events throughout the year, and student clubs range from arts to sports and community groups. An important component of Jacobs University's educational mission is to foster student growth and development of interpersonal and intercultural competencies which are increasingly important in an interconnected globalized world.

Accreditation

Upon its foundation, Jacobs University Bremen gGmbH has been state-approved in accordance with §122(1) of the Higher Education Act of the City State of Bremen. In 2001, Jacobs University Bremen has been institutionally accredited by the German Council of Science and Humanities. This accreditation has been renewed in 2008.
