University of Graz

History

The second oldest university in Austria was founded in 1585 by Archduke Charles II of Inner Austria, initially with just two faculties, those of philosophy and theology in a Jesuit college; in 1778, the faculty of law was established.

Education

Yes, we are a so-called "mass university" in many areas. Unfortunately, this type of university with so many students runs the risk of being perceived only as an "academic local supplier" or regional training center. We want to counteract what we are really good at: research, teaching guided by research, training and promoting young scientists. What else?

Research

Research at the University of Graz should become more visible to the outside world. And this in the form of the “Another question for the future” campaign. The University of Graz specifically asks questions. These are the ones that scientists at the University of Graz are currently working on to answer. Questions that make the nature of research at the University of Graz visible.

Career

Imaginative, innovative, and international – with its 4,100 employees and 32,000 students, the University of Graz provides an exciting and varied work environment. Due to our research and teaching competence we are a central institution for guaranteeing that Styria remains a research and education location.

Library services

With over 3.5 million information carriers, the University Library is one of the largest cultural and educational institutions in Styria. It is a library with universal standards, scientific orientation and public mission for the whole region. It increasingly regards itself as a “hybrid library” which manages, archives, analyses and makes them accessible.

Medical services

Their Disability Resource Centre offers support and advice to students with special needs in all matters of everyday university life. The Centre provides solutions for problems with building accessibility, information barriers, study funding and search for accommodation.

Campus life

The KFU buildings are between around 200 and less than 10 years old. Many of the older buildings could at least be made gradually accessible through subsequent adaptation. However, there are some buildings or building areas where adaptation has so far not been possible. Likewise, not all subsequent adaptations meet the full standard of accessibility, so that, for example, stepless access is only possible via rear entrances or an inner courtyard. Accessibility standards are complied with in all newly erected buildings and current conversions and refurbishments.

Sports facilities

The University Sports Centre – USI for short – has more than 350 low-cost sports courses on offer. Whether you prefer the traditional sports such as football and gymnastics or new and alternative sports such as piloxing, stand-up paddling or paragliding, you can switch off and improve your physical fitness.
