History
Leeds Beckett University is proud of the 190-year history of education, dating back to the founding of Leeds Mechanics Institute in 1824.
Education
The Academic Board is the university's principal academic authority. Subject to the responsibilities of the Board of Governors and the Vice Chancellor, the Academic Board has oversight of quality assurance and enhancement; learning, teaching and assessment; and research and scholarly activity.
The Academic Board has a number of standing committees to oversee particular areas of business. School Academic Committees are responsible to the Academic Board for overseeing academic activities in each school.

With more than 4,250 rooms available in our halls of residence, you really are spoilt for choice. All our accommodation is located within easy travelling distance of our campuses with facilities such as en-suite bedrooms, free Wi-Fi, or a TV in the lounge area.
Library services
Study space bookings are only for students who are legally allowed to come onto campus:
- studying on one of the designated courses (health, social work, teacher training)
- without alternative access to broadband or a PC/laptop
- without adequate study facilities at home
Campus life
- City Campus is made of up of multiple award-winning buildings with seriously impressive modern architecture. We’re located right in the centre of Leeds so it’s the perfect location for enjoying the variety of activities that the city has to offer.
- Headingley Campus is situated just outside of the city centre in the picturesque suburbs and is easily accessible by public transport with regular direct buses into the city. Headingley is an extremely popular student area. It has its own vibrant community with bars, shops and restaurants for you to enjoy. Our beautiful campus is full of green spaces, wildlife and historical buildings.
