Services

Student services

In addition to all of the UGA’s regular student services – housing, on-campus meals, libraries, IT, social and cultural activities, health care, services for disabled students, and sports – international students can seek additional help and information from the International Students and Scholars Office.

This office provides specific help to international populations. There are resources for visas and residence permits, housing, transportation, fixing a budget, the French health system, seeking employment, French language courses, integration for family members, and more. They also work directly with the on-campus branch of the préfecture to streamline immigration procedures for UGA students.

Housing services

Students may choose to live either in student housing or rent/share an apartment in Grenoble.

Housing costs vary, but can be as low as €150 per month in some student residences. Private apartments are typically around €300 to €600 per month.

The International Students and Scholars Office offers specific help for international students seeking accommodation in Grenoble. They can also provide information about issues like finding a garant or paying taxes.

The French government also offers a housing subsidy to students studying in France; depending on their visa status, most international students are eligible for this support.

Library services

The UGA houses three main libraries (science, humanities and social science, and medicine) with additional archives housed by department.

The printed collection totals nearly a million volumes, plus 15,000 periodical titles. These are supplemented by the library’s digital holdings, which can be accessed remotely.

The libraries also offer amenities like group study spaces and IT access.

ICT services

There is campus-wide wi-fi access, as well as additional wi-fi networks in most student housing.

In addition, multiple on-campus spaces offer computer terminals for student use and dedicated IT support.

Several campus services also allow users to check out a laptop computer.

Students also have access to online courses and downloadable course materials and reduced-cost printing services.

Medical services

Staffed by over 46 people, the UGA’s on-campus health center offers basic medical and mental health care, as well as specific services such as family planning, nutrition counseling, stress management, and first aid training.

Additional health care services are offered for students with disabilities.

Student Life

Campus life

The UGA’s 175 hectare main campus is easily accessible by bike, tram, or bus. Many of our sister schools and institutes are also found on this same campus, facilitating interdisciplinary research and teaching.

In addition to this main campus, the UGA maintains facilities throughout the city and the region. The medicine and pharmacy departments are located near Grenoble’s teaching hospital. The GIANT campus is located next to major European research facilities.

Many amenities – canteens, social spaces, sports facilities – are located directly on-campus. Other amenities such as grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. are a short walk from campus.

Sports facilities

Students can register for courses in over 35 different sports. Classes are available at levels, from beginner to expert.

In addition, more than 20 student-run organizations focus on sports, and are open to international students.

In addition to indoor and outdoor sporting facilities – gyms, tracks, tennis courts, martial arts rooms, weight rooms, etc. – the university also offers specialized facilities for sports like swimming, rowing, archery, fencing, and rock climbing.

And, of course, studying in Grenoble means year round access to the Alps for skiing, hiking, climbing, via ferrata, and more.

Student clubs

The UGA has a rich student life, with over 250 different student associations offering activities and community in the arts, culture, sports, volunteerism, politics, music, and much more. International students can get involved in any of these associations simply by getting contact via the student life center (EVE).

In addition, the university organizes a variety of cultural and arts events such as concerts, theater, film, and dance.

The UGA also houses a student-run radio station.

Accreditation

All UGA degrees are regularly evaluated and accredited by France’s Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
