Reykjavík University

Reykjavik University (RU) is a modern, dynamic university situated in the heart of Iceland’s capital. RU focuses on excellence in teaching, research, entrepreneurship, technology development and co-operation with the business sector. The University provides students with a strong academic foundation, cutting-edge practical experience and extensive connections with industry.

Reykjavík University has its roots in the Commercial College of Iceland, School of Computer Science (TVÍ), which was founded in January 1988 and operated within the Commercial College of Iceland (VÍ) facilities for ten years.

Reykjavik University offers degrees at the Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral level. There are many different types of degrees offered at each level. Undergraduate degrees are primarily taught in Icelandic, however there are some English courses available for visiting exchange students and those wishing to do some studies in English. Both master's degree programmes and doctoral degrees programmes are offered in English.

Reykjavik University has a clear and progressive research strategy and stands first among equals in Iceland when it comes to research in its main academic fields. Overall research activity is constantly rising as is the number of publications in peer-reviewed outlets.

Reykjavik University is the first Icelandic university to participate in a formal implementation program of the European Commission policy regarding the working environment of researchers. RU has made a commitment to adapt its overall human resources strategy and the working environment of its researchers to certain principles in line with EU policy in this area.

The University has an interdisciplinary approach that fits well with today's society and offers programmes that, for example, cross business with computer science and computer science with engineering. RU is at the forefront of research in Iceland in its focus areas.
