University of Tours

The Université François-Rabelais is a young university! It was only established in 1970.Its forty years of commitment to excellence have contributed significantly to making it the leading further education establishment in France’s Centre region.

The University of Tours is a decisively European university that has established a campaign of actions within the Europe strategy, aiming to develop “smart, sustainable and inclusive growth”. Through its higher education and research missions, the University of Tours plays a key role in research, development, and in raising the scientific, cultural and professional capacities of as many individuals as possible.

The University totals 34 research units, including 15 joint research units in partnership with the CNRS (the National Centre for Scientific Research), the INSERM (the National Institute of Health and Medical Research), the INRA (the National Institute for Agricultural Research) and the CEA (the Atomic Energy Commission). All of these units are attached to four Doctoral Schools, including three that are shared with the University of Orléans, and to a “Maison des Sciences de l’Homme” (Institute for Human Sciences), related to the CNRS.

Foreign labor regulations in France are very strict and so are student jobs.

  • Students from the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland can hold a job during their studies in France without any specific requirements. They do not have to get a residence permit or work permit.
  • Students from countries outside the European Union : a foreign student can be hired simply by showing his/her temporary residence permit marked “Student” or by showing a receipt for its renewal (without having to request a work authorization).
