Royal College of Music

The Stockholm School of Music trains musicians and music teachers at the highest international level. KMH dates back to 1771, and in 2016 moved into a modern campus area - the future college of music. The musical heritage is managed in tandem with a continuous development going forward.

History

Opened in 1883 by the then Prince of Wales (later Edward VII), the RCM has trained some of the most important figures in British and international music life, including composers such as Holst, Vaughan Williams, Turnage and Britten; conductors such as Leopold Stokowski, Sir Colin Davis and Sir Roger Norrington; singers such as Dame Joan Sutherland, Sir Thomas Allen and Alfie Boe.

Education

The Royal College of Music is one of the world’s great conservatoires, training gifted musicians from all over the world for international careers as performers, conductors and composers.

Housing services

The Royal College of Music’s hall of residence, Prince Consort Village, provides high-quality accommodation for just over 400 students. The building, which is situated on Goldhawk Road, opened in spring 2016 and comprises studio apartments, en-suite rooms and standard rooms.

Library services

The KMH Library is located in House 3 (the former Stables). In the library you will find sheet music, books, periodicals, records, videos, reference works etc. The Library also has KMH’s most comprehensive archive of essays and degree theses written at KMH (but also from other music colleges in Sweden).

Medical services

Studenthälsan is a part of the student service at KMH. At the Studenhälsan office, you can make appointments with a nurse or a psychologist.

Campus life

The newly built Campus Valhallavägen is custom-made for music education, and for creating, experiencing and researching music. Here, the majority of programmes and courses takes place, and most of our concerts and events are held here.
