Overview
You'll study a broad range of topics from the areas of chemical, biological and forensic analysis as well as biotechnology. There is an emphasis on developing practical skills to ensure you're ready for employment within a variety of scientific disciplines. You'll gain an insight into forensic investigation, discovering how to investigate a crime scene and analyse evidence plus the course covers aspects of psychology and the law in relation to crime. The Analytical and Forensic Sciences course should give you a grounding to apply for entry level positions in the field of analytical science, including technical positions.

What you will study
The foundation degree will help develop your scientific investigative skills in the laboratory in both chemical and biological sciences, with a focus upon applying those ideas to the investigation of crime scenes and forensic evidence. You'll learn about procedures for investigating a crime scene and gathering evidence in a professional manner. In addition to modules covering key skills, cellular and molecular biology, analytical chemistry and bioanalytical techniques, you will also undertake a 40-credit work related project around the themes studied on the course which may include a short placement.How you will study

General requirements
Typical entry requirements:- HNC, HND and Foundation Degrees – You would usually need a relevant BTEC level 3 profile of Merit/Pass or Pass/Pass/Pass; or DD at A level; or DE grades at A level plus C in Welsh Baccalaureate; or Access to HE where you have achieved a Pass Diploma with 45 level 3 credits (all Passes).
- GCSE passes at grade C or above in three subjects to include Mathematics and English Language (or equivalent).
- Qualifications should be in a relevant subject area such as Biology and Chemistry at A level or Applied/Forensic Science with Chemistry at BTEC.
Work experience
If you do not meet the typical entry requirements criteria, your life and work experience will be taken into consideration. Combinations of the qualifications below are acceptable and other qualifications not listed may also be accepted, such as NVQ level 3, CACHE Diploma, NNEB, or OCN and OCR level 3.
