About

As the music industry continues to rapidly evolve, the Music Business Certificate at UCLA Extension serves both aspiring and established music industry executives, artists, producers, managers, songwriters, and publishers who desire up-to-date information on the principles of the music industry in the areas of A&R, touring, marketing, legal issues, publishing, and artist management.

Students must complete a total of 10 courses (40 units) for the award. 7 courses (28 units) are required and the remaining 3 electives (12 units) are comprised of other courses numbered X 400-499 in Music Business, Music Production or Film Scoring. New electives are added regularly.

A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 must be achieved for successful completion of the certificate program.

      Academic Requirements

      You need the following GPA score:

      Required score: 3

      Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

      Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

      • Create a student profile, apply to your certificate program, and pay the candidacy fee
      • Navigate to the International Student Certificate Program Application and submit when all pages are complete
      • Pay international student fees.  You will be prompted to pay the international student fee when you submit your completed application. You will pay the remaining international student fees via the links on the international student fee page.
      • Send required documents to the International Student Office
