The Bachelor of Music course is offered by MacEwan University, School of Continuing Education.

Jazz, rock, pop, metal, blues, soul, country, electronica, hip hop: if you sing, play, write, or record it, we teach it. Bring your energy and creativity to MacEwan University and realize your goal of becoming a professional in the ever-evolving world of contemporary popular music.

You will develop your talent together with your fellow students guided by internationally renowned, award-winning faculty. This hands-on experience is enhanced by studies in performance, theory, composition, musicology, career management, recording and production, digital audio technology, and research.

In the Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music, you gain the skills, insights, credentials and connections you need to pursue a career as a professional musician, performer, creator and leader in the music industry. This four-year degree program has the option to obtain a diploma after the completion of the first two years.

Career

In our program, you work closely with faculty who are internationally renowned, award-winning researchers and leaders in the contemporary music industry. They prepare you not only for a career in music, but also for further academic pursuits. You leave the program with the skills, training and musical literacy you need to continue your studies at the graduate level.

Admission requirements include the high school subjects or post-secondary equivalents you need to complete and the minimum grades you need to achieve to be considered for admission into this program. Along with academic criteria, you will need to ensure additional admission criteria are met.

Applicants must have a minimum overall average of 65 percent, with no course grade lower than 50 percent, in the following high school courses:

  • ELA 30-1 or 75% in ELA 30-2
