HMX Physiology covers principles that are important for understanding how the body works, with a focus on showing how these concepts apply in real-life situations and clinical scenarios. Learners are eligible to earn a certificate from Harvard Medical School. 


Understanding how the body works is essential for effectively treating patients. In the HMX Physiology course from Harvard Medical School HMX, you’ll learn about the principles behind how the human body functions, and see how this knowledge comes into play in real-world scenarios and in clinical settings from the intensive care unit to the cardiac catheterization lab.

HMX courses cover fundamental medical concepts through detailed visualizations, real-world scenarios, and genuine doctor-patient interactions, with ongoing assessments to ensure content mastery.

Programme Structure

HMX Physiology is offered during approximately 10-week periods throughout the year and includes a variety of videos, interactive graphics, and assessments to check your learning. The courses are set up to release lessons weekly; however students are able to move through the lessons at their own pace. (Once new lessons are released, you still have access to previous lessons.) Students must finish all assessments and the final exam before the course closes. You can expect to spend 3 - 6 hours per week for a single course. 


HMX Physiology is appropriate for those considering or advancing in health care and related careers, including students preparing for medical school and other health care programs and current professionals in a variety of fields looking to build their knowledge.

General Requirements

An application is required for all HMX courses, including a nonrefundable $35 application fee. You will need to fill out a brief application that gives us some basic information about you and what you hope to get out of the HMX courses. You will also need to confirm that you’ve met the recommended prerequisites. We recommend knowledge of basic chemistry, biology, and physics; however, advanced knowledge of these topics is not required.

If you sign up for a multi-course bundle, you receive a significant discount: US$1000 total for a two-course bundle (US$500 per course), US$1425 total for a three-course bundle ($475 per course), US$1800 total for a four-course bundle (US$450 per course), or US$2125 total for a five-course bundle ($425 per course).
