Overview
Key facts
You will utilise in-depth knowledge and understanding that you have gained to enable you to recognise the deviations from the normal to initiate appropriate care and referral. Critical reflection and completion of the Newborn & Infant Physical Examination practice documents will allow you to further identify your learning needs and develop your scope of professional practice. You will need to work in the appropriate clinical environment to undertake the NIPE under the supervision of a health professional with the NIPE qualification as a pre-requisite of the module.
How you’ll learn
You’ll use our online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) at Anglia Ruskin University and will have a document to complete in practice to support your learning. There is an emphasis on skills-based components and work-based learning. Experienced clinical mentors will help you connect the theory you learn with your practice, and you’ll also be allocated a personal tutor. You will be encouraged to organise elective visits to relevant clinics, such as cleft palate or heart clinics, within your trusts to enhance your own learning needs.
Programme Structure
- You’ll complete a number of practical Newborn and Infant Physical examinations within your trust, which will include reflection and critical analysis of your experiences. You will also do an observed simulated clinical examination (OSCE).
