Programme Overview
- The Introduction to Art Therapy course at La Trobe University will incorporate both theoretical and experiential learning to guide you through a gentle and mindful exploration of diverse art materials and processes.
- This workshop will include slide show presentations, case study presentations, individual art making experiences, and group discussion.
- You'll create, reflect and explore personal meaning, and also experience the potential of art-making as a tool for personal growth, connectedness and self-awareness.
- The workshop is suitable for a wide range of backgrounds and professional practitioners, including prospective students of the Master of Art Therapy.
Programme Structure
Course include:
- The first day will offer an overview of the key principles of art therapy, including the power of non-verbal expression, connecting to a creative self, and how different art materials can elicit a range of responses in participants. A case study will also demonstrate the use of art therapy with children and adolescents living with cancer.
- The second day will focus on the impact and use of different art materials in art therapy, such as fluid and resistive materials. A case study presentation on the use of art therapy with adults with eating disorders will also be discussed.
