Overview
What you will learn
The different types of sandal constructions including slotted, skeleton, and thong will be explained, before you create your own design using the available materials and components.
You will then be taken through foot anatomy, size fitting system, and last measurements using contemporary Italian lasts. Under the guidance of the tutor, you'll learn from the beginning how to measure your feet in order to design and develop your own sole, insole, and upper patterns as well as being able to cut and sectionalize all the individual pieces of the patterns for their sandal.
The Shoe Making - The Sandal course at the University of the Arts London (UAL) will then move on to take you through the different processes used in making and completing a pair of sandals. The tutor will demonstrate the skills needed to identify the different upper materials and hand cutting techniques as well as an introduction into the different types of edge treatments, such as folded, bagged, and binding techniques.
