Overview
About the course
On this four-week Introduction to Slow Fashion and Sustainable Practices course at the University of the Arts London (UAL) we will examine why sustainable living practices and slow fashion go hand in hand. We will discuss why there is a growth in sustainable practice jobs and business opportunities across retail and service industry sectors.
Embracing diversity, accepting that we are all individuals and that as a collective whole we can make a difference is part of the power of the Slow Lifestyle conscious consumerism movement. Respecting that circularity in all things from food to fashion means respecting our planet, mirroring nature’s sustainable cycles.
Through a combination of discussions, short lectures, inspirational case studies, introduction to tools, and practical application of tools through hands-on assignment briefs we will explore why slow living and slow fashion has become so attractive to us as consumers. We’ll look at the history past to present, asking who the movers and shakers are in this area and how can we learn from them to build our own mindful sustainable lifestyle at home, at work, and in our business practice. Students will be expected to work one or two hours outside of class.
