About the course
- The Ceramics for Beginners course at the University of the Arts London (UAL) will explore the potential of making in clay, its inherent properties and producing well-built forms that can be taken home once fired.
Programme Structure
Topics covered:- You will learn how to construct forms using hand-building techniques and create colourful and decorative surface patterns. A wide range of surface decoration techniques will be also covered.
- During the course you will have the opportunity to learn the basics of using the wheel. Learning how to throw to create cylinders and functional tableware.
- You will be encouraged to bring materials and research during the course that contributes to their learning and practice.
- Students can expect to make a collection of work using a variety of techniques. We will use earthenware clays, slips, stains and oxides.
