Outcome of this course
Candidates who complete all assessments in this short course will partially fulfil EWRB requirements for the Associated Tradesperson (Plumber, Gasfitter and Plumber or Gasfitter) class of registration. The course does not offer the written capstone examination required for registration.
Upon successful completion, Unitec Institute of Technology will submit your practical assessment record to EWRB and confirm your eligibility to sit an examination to the EWRB examination provider, ASPEQ.Programme Structure
The course covers:- A formal training course for an Associated Tradesperson accredited by EWRB
- Practical skill assessments
- Instruction in safe working practices, testing, basic first aid and cardiac-pulmonary resuscitation, as approved by EWRB.

General requirements
This course is for:
- Registered Plumbers and/or Registered Gasfitters who wish to carry out authorised electrical work, such as the installation of water heaters and the servicing of waste disposal units.
- Please note, to gain this class of registration, EWRB will request a registration issued by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (plumber or gasfitter or plumber/gasfitter).
To attend the course, you must have required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) gear, which includes safety (capped) footwear and safety glasses. We recommend that you bring your toolbox, which must include (but not limited to):
- Tester
- Wire strippers
- Phillips screwdrivers
- Flat blade screwdrivers
- Diagonal (Side) cutters
- Electrician’s pliers
