What you will study

On completion of the African Studies - Education and Change in African Societies course offered by Dalarna University, the student should be able to:

  • demonstrate an in-depth understanding of fundamental conditions for education policies and for the role of education in the development of African societies
  • explain and analyse issues of education policies with particular relevance for African conditions
  • critically and independently analyse relationships between global processes and social change in African societies.

Programme Structure

The program focuses on:

  • The course deals with education policies and the role of education in the development of African societies. 
  • The focus is on the relationship between education and social change. Indigenous knowledge and learning systems are discussed in relation to formal and structured education systems. 
  • The role of international aid in education for development in African societies will be discussed as well as questions related to professional ethics and to the role of official curricula.
