What you will learn
Upon completion of the Tourism Studies course offered by Dalarna University, students will be able to:
Knowledge and understanding
- explain contemporary tourism-related issues using current research
- explain the relationship between sustainability and tourism
- explain important tourism concepts and theories
Competence and skills
- discuss and evaluate tourism concepts in writing
- analyse the opportunities for tourism and the challenges it faces
- identify, analyse and communicate how concepts and theories from tourism studies relate to the reality of tourism
Judgement and approach
- reflect on the different impacts that tourism can have
- discuss different aspects of tourism as a social phenomenon
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- how tourism is integrated into wider society
- how tourism interacts within the dynamic socio economic environment in which we currently live
- the different levels of tourism (local, regional, national and global) and different types of tourism (for example, cultural tourism, dark tourism, indigenous tourism and food tourism)
- the challenges and issues facing tourism
- the need for sustainable approaches for the future success of tourism
