What you will study

On completion of the The Future of Human Rights - Sustainability and Contemporary Social Challenges course offered by Dalarna University, students will be able to:

  • analyse and critically discuss exploratory theorisations of the relationship between human rights and sustainable development
  • identify possibilities and problems relating to the implementation of human rights using relevant theorisations, especially with regard to sustainable development
  • systematically explain, discuss and critically evaluate different theoretical perspectives on a defined area in the fields of human rights and sustainable development.

  • the theoretical attempts to reform the understanding of human rights in order to improve the ability to deal with contemporary problems, such as the climate crisis
  • the third and fourth wave of human rights
  • how human rights have become a dominant framework for the way in which states and citizens/individuals should act in relation to each other
