Overview
Outcomes
At the end of the Advanced wireless networks course offered by Luleå University of Technology, you will be able to:
- Explain the parts of modern radio broadcasting technology.
- Calculate the size of radio broadcast areas.
- Explain the \ "hidden / exposed terminal \" issue and explain the difference between MAC protocols in wireless and wired networks.
- Describe the channel congestion problem in the MAC and transport layer.
- Calculate path using the famous Bellman-Ford and Dijkstra path selection algorithms and identify path selection protocol problems in wireless networks.
- Explain the concepts behind reactive and proactive routing protocols in wireless networks.
- Explain the concepts behind geographical and content-based routing protocols in wireless networks. Identify the problems with the use of transport protocols in wireless multi-hop networks
- Simulate TCP and UDP in a wireless environment and different routing protocols in a network simulator and measure performance parameters such as throughput, packet-loss frequency.
- Explain the principles behind the network architectures WiMax, Zegbee and Bluetooth, LTE.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- Basic knowledge of wireless communication
- Sensor network (IEEE802.15.x protocols, eg, Bluetooth, ZigBee)
- Local wireless networks (IEEE 802.11x protocols)
- Mobile networks (LTE, WiMax)
- Mobility in Wireless Networks (Mobile IP, mobile ad-hoc networks, delay-tolerant networks)
