Overview
What you will learn
The learning objectives of the Conversational Koine Greek 1 course offered by South African Theological Seminary are:
- You will start by learning the Greek alphabet so that you can read and pronounce Greek words.
- You will learn and master 60 Greek words, 20 per cent of the total vocabulary in a typically first-year seminary Greek programme. You will master them with relative ease because you will learn them in sentences, being exposed to each word repeatedly.
- You will learn over 130 Greek phrases and sentences, all built using the same 60 words.
- Without realising it, you will be learning many of the foundational elements of Greek grammar.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- There are five conversations and each one begins with a video. The first thing you should do is watch the video. We recommend watching it twice. As you watch, trying to say in Greek the things that you are learning.
- After the video, there is an audio file that you can listen to online or download to use offline. It is the exact same information that is in the video. The purpose of the audio version is for you to listen to the conversation repeatedly while you go about your daily activities. We recommend that you listen to it until you can make 80 per cent of the responses without difficulty.
- Finally, there is a set of flashcards for the course for you to practise the phrases until you have mastered them. The flashcards are in a programme called RemNote, which uses a scientific algorithm to help you practise content until you have mastered it.
