What you will learn
The aim of the Essentials of Nursing Sick Children course offered by University of Cape Town course is to equip nurses, who work regularly or occasionally with sick children, with essential knowledge and skills to confidently provide the most appropriate nursing care to sick children and their families.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- An understanding of anatomical, physiological and developmental differences across the age-span of a child, and how this impacts the response to illness and the required nature of care.
- An ability to provide safe, quality, evidence based nursing care to sick children, using the Regul8 Framework as a guide.
- A recognition of the important supportive role of the principle caregiver and the ability to provide care for both the child and the family unit.
- An understanding of their role in the work of ensuring the best possible hospital outcomes through an awareness of child health in the region.
