Overview
Participants in this Educator’s Toolkit - Exploring IoT Concepts through Engaging Projects course at the Singapore University of Technology and Design will have a chance to develop simple IoT devices/prototypes to demonstrate the applications of IoT.
Through the hands‐on project using an ESP microcontroller, participants can learn about Arduino coding, physics of various sensors, simple circuit and electronics, soldering skills and so on.
Learning Objectives
- Describe and explain IoT technology
- Describe and explain the working principle of MQTT protocol
- Develop a simple project for remote control devices using ESP microcontroller, sensors and Arduino coding
- Apply basic knowledge of circuits and electronics, as well as develop soldering skills

- Internet of Things
- MQTT protocol
- Arduino IDE
- Setting up the software prerequisites, libraries
- ESP8266 microcontroller and simple circuits
- Setting up the hardware, sensors and circuit
- Explanation of the code and practical exercise
- Setting up temperature and humidity sensors to ESP8266
- Explanation of the code and practical exercise
- Brainstorming a simple idea for prototyping development
- Individual project development with facilitation
- A short presentation of the prototype
