The learning objectives of the Asset Management within Public Institutions (GRAP) course offered by North-West University (NWU) are:

  • Basic knowledge and informed understanding of GRAP 17 Property, plant and equipment with a focus on how an entity shall choose either the cost model or the revaluation model as its accounting policy and shall apply that policy to an entire class of property, plant and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge and informed understanding of de-recognition.
  • Elementary knowledge of heritage assets in terms of GRAP.
  • The ability to identify, describe and select standard disclosure for each PPE with regard to basis of measuring gross carrying amount, depreciation methods, useful lives or depreciation rates, gross carrying amount and accumulated depreciation and impairment losses, additional disclosure requirements in respect of revalued assets.
  • Basic knowledge and informed understanding of the classification of assets.
