Overview
What you will study
The primary aim of this Environmental Management System - Lead Auditor course offered by North-West University (NWU) is to equip participants with knowledge and requirements to successfully plan, execute and report on environmental management system (EMS) audits as well as to act as lead auditors in EMS audits as outlined in ISO 19011: 2018.
In addition to the ISO 19011: 2018 guidelines, this course introduces participants to the requirements and generic competencies for bodies providing audits and the certification of management systems outlined in ISO/IEC 17021. Complementary to the ISO/IEC 17021 requirements are technical specifications on the specific competence requirements for the auditing and certification of environmental management systems as outlined in ISO/IEC TS 17021-2. The course also covers the requirements and recommendations for content relating to a third-party audit report on management systems found in ISO/IEC TS 17022.
Lastly, South African environmental legal requirements, EMS requirements (based on ISO 14001: 2015) and organisational own arrangements are used as auditing criteria.
Some of the key characteristics of this programme are:
- the down-to-earth and practical training techniques used to explain environmental auditing principles and techniques; and
- demonstrations and role-play situations, as well as a take-away assignment to practically exercise auditing planning, execution, judgement and reporting skills as well as formulating corrective action requests, using simulated EMS documentation, specific scenarios and case studies.
