The learning objectives of the Financial Statements (GRAP) for Public Institutions course offered by North-West University (NWU) are:

  • The ability to provide guidance on the basis for the presentation of financial statements in conjunction with GRAP 1.
  • Basic knowledge and informed understanding of fair presentation and compliance with the standards of GRAP.
  • The ability to select, apply and provide additional disclosures where compliance with the requirements of a Standard of GRAP is insufficient to enable the users to understand the impact on the entity’s financial position and financial performance.
  • Basic knowledge and informed understanding of why management should make an assessment of an entity’s ability to continue as a going concern when preparing the financial statements.
  • The ability to identify and motivate, under GRAP, why the financial statements (excluding the cash flow) are prepared on accrual basis.
  • Basic knowledge and informed understanding of comparative information that must be disclosed in respect of the previous period for all amounts reported in the financial statements.
