What you will learn
The main purpose of the Setswana for Beginners course offered by North-West University (NWU) is to:
- enable participants to communicate effectively in beginners conversational Setswana in social and other situations.
- equip participants with skills focusing on listening, speaking, reading and understanding Setswana at a beginners’ level;
- equip participants with specific Setswana language knowledge required to communicate efficiently at a beginners’ level; and
- enhance communicative competence in Setswana (correct language use, fluent and accurate language use, and appropriate language use).
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:- An ability to listen to and understand a Setswana speaker.
- An ability to take part in a Setswana conversation with basic functional vocabulary and phrases (expressions).
- An ability to read and understand basic Setswana texts; and
- An ability to understand and explain basic aspects of Setswana grammar.
- An ability to understand and explain aspects of Setswana culture.
