Overview
What you will study
Designed in collaboration with parents of young children and supported by research, the Chicago Parent Program offered by Johns Hopkins University was created to address the needs of families from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds. The program listed on the California Evidence-based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare and the National Registry of Evidenced-based Programs and Practices and can be used as part of a comprehensive prevention or treatment program for helping parents of young children with or at risk for developing serious behavior problems.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- Understand the theory and research underlying the CPP model
- Understand the meaning and purpose of the evidence-based parenting strategies taught in the CPP
- Understand how the different components of the CPP are used to promote parents’ confidence and competence in managing their children’s behavior
- Develop beginning competence in implementing the CPP
- Identify strategies for effectively implementing lessons learned in programs and agencies serving families and young children
