What you will study
- The Clinical Vestibular Competency course offered by Johns Hopkins University is a hybrid, intensive, course which consists of online lectures available for a three-month duration with an optional two day in-person gathering for additional lecture, lab, and examination to achieve certification if so desired.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- Identify and explain the anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system.
- Explain and interpret the clinical significance of diagnostic studies and laboratory data.
- Explain and interpret the clinical significance of the physical assessment, interview data and other information from the medical record.
- Explain and identify signs and symptoms of vestibular dysfunction and be able to refer a patient to a different provider when necessary.
- Identify therapeutic management for vestibular dysfunction including medications, diet, and surgical procedures.
- Identify red-flags related to central dysfunction and explain the appropriate response when identifying signs of central dysfunction.
- Formulate a plan of care for individuals with vestibular dysfunction based on medical records, vestibular testing, and physical evaluation.
- Demonstrate appropriate interdisciplinary care communication and collaboration.
