Overview
What you will study
The Promoting and Influencing Health course offered by University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) begins with what it means to be healthy, how health is interpreted and the concepts of health promotion and education. Students will review health messages using different mediums, how they are delivered and received. Health information available via the media, internet, in the community and clinical settings will be explored and their impact evaluated. Consideration will be given to cultural implications of the topics and issues under discussion. Relevant health promotion and clinical research will be used to support the discussions. Topical examples will be reviewed to identify how messages are changed or interpreted differently by individuals and groups. Heath information for users and or carers such as patient network web sites will be discussed as appropriate to identifying differing perspectives. Students will focus on one health topic of interest to them and develop health promotional information for a specific client or group, examining the theory and evidence that supports the message format, delivery and content.
