What you will study
On successful completion of this Safeguarding Children and Young People course offered by University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) a student will be able to:
- Critically appraise theories and evidence underpinning service development and practice for safeguarding children.
- Demonstrate enhanced knowledge and skills in improving effective inter-professional and multidisciplinary working in the interests of safeguarding children
- Critically analyse policy, guidance and practice in relation to assessment of need and risk
- Critically evaluate the participation of children and young people in safeguarding service provision
- Demonstrate professional leadership in the practice of safeguarding children by contributing to the advancement of knowledge and evidence based practice of professional colleagues.

- Contemporary context
- Policy, guidance and practice in relation to assessment of need and risk
- Professional decision making – evidence from research
- Lessons from serious case reviews and research
- Theoretical approaches to safeguarding
- Outcomes – what are good outcomes for children, what is the evidence base and how can they be assured?
- Evidence base for effective inter-professional child welfare practice in safeguarding children
- Developing strategies for effective Inter-professional/multidisciplinary working
- Staff support and professional development in safeguarding work

- This module is aimed at those who wish to develop their knowledge and practice in safeguarding children and young people.
- All candidates need to ensure that they have a relevant undergraduate degree at 2:2 or above, or evidence of their ability to study at postgraduate level.
