Middlebury Institute of International Studies' Chinese School provides a first-rate language program and life experience to look upon with pride and a deep sense of accomplishment long after the summer is over. Programs are open to college undergraduates, recent graduates, graduate students at other institutions, and professionals of all ages.
Choose a program based on your language proficiency and goals of study.
- 8-week immersion program for beginner to advanced students who primarily want to improve language proficiency as rapidly as possible.
- Several graduate programs for students with superior proficiency who are pursuing a master’s degree in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.
Programme Structure
- You will learn daily from some of the foremost teachers in the world. Chinese School faculty are chosen from among the most dedicated, hardworking professionals in academia. They are available to our students throughout the day and campus to assist, guide, and support. For graduate students, our programs provide rigorous graduate level instruction in key content areas.

General requirements
Please provide official transcripts, either emailed from your registrar or sealed in an envelope. We require an official transcript from each post-secondary institution attended, whether or not you studied a foreign language. If you are a first-term college student, submit an official transcript from your high school as well as a registration report of the courses that you are taking now. Transcripts are not required for Classical Hebrew, Hebrew for Lifelong Learners, or the English Language School.
