Overview
Key facts
The Chinese fiddle or Erhu is thought to have evolved from an earlier instrument known as a Xiqin which originated in central Asia over 1,000 years ago. The Erhu is a two stringed bowed instrument with a beautifully characteristic haunting sound quality and is most famously used in the sound track to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
For those with some experience with string instruments, there is opportunity to progress more quickly and eventually have the opportunity to perform at live events with Goldsmiths Confucius Institute.
Goldsmiths, University of London offers the Learn Chinese Music - Erhu (Chinese Fiddle) programme.
