About the course
This Antipsychotics Essentials course at Middlesex University aims to develop your knowledge and skills in providing safe care and clinical management of mental health service users taking antipsychotic medications.
It is designed particularly for staff who experience client contact and who are looking to enhance their practice, specifically those with a limited knowledge of how medications used in the treatment and management of psychosis, schizophrenia work (including clinical benefits and side effects).
Programme Structure
By the end of the session, you should be able to:- Describe neuronal physiology, neurotransmission, and relevance to symptomatology of psychosis
- Discuss biochemical theories posted in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia
- Discuss pharmacotherapeutics of antipsychotic drugs and relevance in the treatment and management of psychosis
- Outline indications for use of Antipsychotics
- Outline and discuss side effects and management
- Discuss best practice regarding medication and physical health management
