Overview
Key facts
- University of Strathclyde's Game Changing Musicals shall focus on four musicals which changed the entire genre and had a significant impact on its general development, and learn to sing the most popular songs from those shows: Show Boat (1927), the first musical to feature actual characters and a plot, as well as an integrated cast of black and white performers appearing together; Oklahoma (1943), a serious piece of story-telling where all the songs are used to advance the plot or develop character; A Chorus Line (1975), which removes virtually all scenery and costumes and offers a glimpse at the audition process, exploring who performers are; and Evita (1979), the first of the 'mega-musicals' - shows produced and marketed on a global scale which were to dominate much of the 80s and 90s.
