Overview

Dalhousie University 's Programme Design course learners will explore a variety of needs assessment types that are commonly used in adult learning contexts, how the information gathered then informs the outcomes and what participants will be able to do after the learning experience. Learners will also design formative and summative assessments that serve to measure the learning that has taken place, completing the design cycle process.

What You Will Learn

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • describe the components of adult education and learning
  • describe the ADDIE programme design cycle
  • define needs assessment
  • identify the various tools of needs assessments and in which contexts they are useful
  • develop SMART competency-based learning outcomes to measure skills and achievements
  • develop instructional methods and activities to align with your outcomes
  • define assessment
  • explain the usefulness of different methods of assessments
  • explain the connection between needs assessment, learning outcomes and assessments
  • develop an assessment plan that aligns with your learning outcomes

Microcredential

This course provides learners with the opportunity to earn a microcredential. A microcredential is evidence of a skill or competency that is employment related. Dalhousie microcredentials are developed in collaboration with employers, industries, and/or organizations that relate to the content. A microcredential can be displayed on social media pages, digital resumes, personal webpages, and in email signatures. To earn the microcredential in this course, learners will need to successfully complete a competency-based assessment.
