Transitioning into a position of authority means many unique challenges, including new responsibilities and skills. This Transition to Supervision course offered by University of New Brunswick is designed to help you comprehend the challenges and exciting opportunities of making a transition to a leadership role.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- Understand the importance of effective leadership in your new supervisory role
- Give and receive feedback constructively and effectively
- Discover what motivates your employees and yourself
- Distinguish between coaching and counselling employees, and help employees develop skills in both areas
- Provide strategies to deal with difficult employees
- Apply active listening skills (e.g. open-ended probes and reflective statements)
- Identify mistakes supervisors commonly make in performance management
- Explore appropriate development strategies for different levels of employee performance
