Overview
What you will learn
The Process and Systems Safety Engineering course offered by University of Queensland , which has been co-designed by academic and industry leaders, comprises 2 parts:
- Part 1 introduces you to the fundamentals of process safety and systems safety and how it can improve health and safety outcomes
- Part 2 takes what you have learnt and puts it into practice, critiquing key process safety approaches and applying your learnings to a case study.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- Explain the differences between personal safety, process safety and systems safety and functional safety.
- Describe key elements of process/systems safety management systems (PSMS) and how to assess these.
- Understand how systems safety analysis be integrated into other safety and risk management processes.
- Identify opportunities for improvement.
- Application and critique of process safety approaches
- Develop skills in performing and/or critiquing the quality of key process safety approaches associated with risk assessment, risk treatment and event investigations.
- Develop skills in developing and assessing recommendations derived from process safety approaches.
- Develop skills in critiquing process and identifying S.M.A.R.T improvements to process safety management systems.

- Part 2 should be attended by technical specialists or management roles that oversee the application of effective process safety strategies
- To be eligible for entry to most UQ programs, you need to meet our minimum English language requirements (overall IELTS of 6.5 and 6.0 in all sub-bands or equivalent).
