What you will learn
The Law at the front door course offered by Cardiff University aims to tackle some of the basic practical skills needed by doctors at all stages of their clinical practice, such as writing coroner’s statements and good complaint management, as well as covering some of the core principles of clinical negligence and the Death Certification process, so that these vital processes and pathways can be de-mystified.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- The realities and processes behind a GMC Investigation
- The new 2024 Good Medical Practice Guidelines
- Understanding the dangers of social media in the medical profession
- Surviving a disciplinary process
- Workshops with practical skills such as writing medicolegal reports, case discussions - the Mental Health Act in practice, complaints and the Ombudsman.

General requirements
- This course is suitable for all doctors at any level, from medical students to trainee and GP/consultants, who feel that they would benefit from medicolegal expertise and practical skills.
- The university minimum requirement for English language is a grade C/4 at GCSE or IELTS (Academic) with 6.5 overall and a minimum of 5.5 in each of the subskills.
- In addition to meeting the academic language standard, applicants who require a Student Route visa to study in the UK must present an acceptable English language qualification to meet UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) requirements - in most cases, this will be the same language evidence.
