What you will study
The Nutrition and the critically ill course offered by Cardiff University will help you develop an understanding of the nutritional challenges and needs of critically ill patients and consider methods to promote the nutrition in the critically ill. This course has been specifically designed to be delivered entirely virtually. You will benefit from tutor-led sessions, pre-recorded sessions and interactive exercises.
We encourage active discussion, so you’ll have the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with your peers. We have limited the number of places in order to ensure that you receive the best possible learning experience. You will also develop IT skills as you complete the course.

- Anthropometry in critical care
- Nutritional biochemistry and common nutritional abnormalities in critical illness
- Metabolic response to critical illness
- GI function and feeding routes
- Estimating energy and protein requirements
- Nutrition and pharmaceutical management in the critically ill

General requirements
- This course is suitable for healthcare professionals who have an interest in the nutritional care of the critically ill patient.
- The university minimum requirement for English language is a grade C/4 at GCSE or IELTS (Academic) with 6.5 overall and a minimum of 5.5 in each of the subskills.
- In addition to meeting the academic language standard, applicants who require a Student Route visa to study in the UK must present an acceptable English language qualification to meet UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) requirements - in most cases, this will be the same language evidence.
