What you will learn
This Sustainable Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Systems course offered by Cranfield University aims to use dynamic systems analysis (mapping) to gain clarity about the WASH environment as a dynamic complex system of social, physical and institutional factors. It will help you identify and engage opportunities to gain leverage and move towards sustainability by applying total systems thinking tools. It also provides an approach to effectively learn and adapt your understanding of the whole WASH system to both urban and rural contexts.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- Systems thinking approach in WASH and evaluating how the WASH environment operates as a complex, dynamic system,
- Develop an appropriate strategy to engage the system in order to have a highly leveraged impact for sustainable WASH,
- Assumptions and hypotheses about how our WASH system works, including learnings and effective adaptation measures,
- Developing and creating a rich picture, inter-relationship digraphs and surfacing causal loop diagrams (CLD),
- Optional pre-work for this course involves downloading the free student version of Vensim® Software to practice drawing diagrams which will be discussed in-class during the course.
