Overview
Key facts
Methods of determining mobility performance for different vehicle and the terrain conditions will be explained. From knowledge of dynamics at the terrain-wheel interface, different criteria will be developed which determine the mobility performance of the different military vehicles operating in different terrain conditions.
The study of mobility will include available modelling and testing techniques (both full- and scale-model), autonomous-vehicle mobility, and tyre dynamics and the modelling. The use of mobility models will be treated in some depth. The mechanics of the different soils will also be discussed – this includes the soil modelling and testing methods under laboratory and in-situ conditions. Lectures will be complemented by Audio-visual material and the tutorial sessions
Cranfield University's Terramechanics and Military Vehicle Mobility programme will teach you more about this topic.
