Overview
The Money, Banking and Cryptocurrencies course from UCL Summer School will be articulated around standard theoretical models, empirical evidence, policy developments and case studies.
With the latter respect, you will take advantage of the international dimension of the UCL Summer School and draw from the experiences of different countries in the world. You will investigate the role of credit for economic growth, why banks exist and how they compete.

By the end of the module, students will have:
- Explained, using economic tools and empirical evidence, why retail banking is central to the economy and what factors affect the decision-making of retail banks.
- Used multimedia tools to produce a policy brief on the financial development of a country of their choice.
- Critically analysed the role of government intervention in the banking sector during the last global financial crisis.
- Understood the economic nature of Bitcoin and the working mechanism of blockchain.
- Critically evaluated the impact of this potentially disruptive technology on banks (and central banks).
