About

Gentle French Level 1 at International House is a face-to-face course designed for complete beginners who want to learn French at a relaxed, enjoyable pace — with more time to absorb the language and more opportunities to put it into practice in real-life situations.

Overview

Over 8 weeks at International House, you will cover the same essential content as our French Level 1 evening course, using the same coursebook and reaching the same learning outcomes.

The difference is the experience: longer sessions, a gentler rhythm, and practical activities woven into every lesson that bring the language to life — from introducing yourself and exchanging personal information, to expressing your likes and dislikes and navigating the social conventions of French-speaking culture.

Why choose Gentle French Level 1?

  • study with a trusted and internationally recognised language school in the heart of London
  • learn in an immersive, face-to-face environment with a qualified, experienced teacher
  • cover the full French Level 1 syllabus at a more relaxed, sustainable pace
  • benefit from practical activities, role-plays, and cultural moments built into every lesson
  • build genuine confidence through more speaking practice and consolidation
  • enjoy an afternoon format designed to fit comfortably into your week

Programme Structure

By the end of the course, you will be able to:
  • talk about yourself and others and exchange basic personal information
  • ask and answer simple questions about nationality, language, and contact details
  • express likes and dislikes and engage in basic social interactions
  • use the present tense of être and avoir and apply simple grammar structures
