Features
The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) course at Belfast Metropolitan College is composed of:
- Input sessions, which take place on Tuesday evening
- Assessed teaching practice with live students, which takes place on Thursday evening.
You are also required to complete four assessed assignments throughout the course.

General requirements
Essential:
- A high standard of spoken and written English.
- At least 20 years old, although the Centre may consider applications from younger applicants if they are deemed suitable.
- 2 GCE A-levels or the equivalent qualifications required for entry into higher education.
Non-native speakers of English are welcome to apply if they present a UK recognised certificate showing they have reached C1 level in English Language, e.g. IELTS or Cambridge International.
Suitably qualified applicants are invited for interview and asked to complete a pre-interview language task as well as a brief written task on the day of the interview.
