Overview
Develop your specialist engineering skills with us online. In this Masters-level online short course, you’ll develop your understanding of conceptual structural engineering design for offshore structures.
With expert guidance, you’ll build your skills and confidence in this specialised area of engineering and, in particular, the detailed design and modelling of jacket structures.
Outcomes
By the end of this Offshore Structural Design course at the University of Aberdeen, you’ll be able to...
- Identify various components of offshore structures and recognise the basis of design and load resistance mechanisms.
- Visualise jacket configurations, structural response, and design iterations through interactive structural analysis, employing advanced finite element packages.
- Visualise structural response and load paths within a jacket structure.
- Understand the applicability and limitations of Structural Codes of Practice for tubular joint design.
- Approach complicated offshore-structure design issues appropriately, through concept design, simplified calculations, and spreadsheet development.
- Create comprehensive computational models for the detailed design of jacket platforms using related Codes of Practice.
